Click on the 'Fort George' link here for more pictures. This is a major Infantry battalion barracks still in use today. (Currently 1st Battalion the Royal Irish Regiment). Our regimental chapel is the large building on its own at the pointed end.
After 23 years in the British Army (Queen's Own Highlanders etc) now recently qualified as an English and History teacher. 80% disabled (55% deaf and 25% lame) due to Army service so don't expect me to run if there's a bomb....throw me on top of it and save yourselves!

When I first joined the Army I was taught the role of Infantry was: "To seek and close with the enemy, to kill or capture him, to seize and hold ground, by day or by night regardless of weather or terrain"
It didn't include that my role was to roll over and take a kicking from a self serving sensationalist media there to criticise with clinical detail every move I made on the battlefield from the comfort of a climate controlled office in order to allow them to get some middle class human rights person (on the BBC) and continue to undermine the morale of the troops. (A comment that says it all…..)
