
Lieutenant Colonel G R Couser TD HIGHLAND
Lt Col Garry Couser joined the TA in 1985 and was commissioned into 1st Bn, 51st Highland Volunteers in 1986, where he served with A Coy in Dundee. He was promoted to Captain in 1989 and served as 2IC HQ Coy. It was during this period that he applied for SSVC service with 1BW. He joined 1 BW in Balllykinler NI where he served as a Pl Comd and Coy 2IC. He returned to command A Coy 1/51 Highland in 1992.
He was posted to Tayforth UOTC between 1994-96, after which time he returned to the newly formed 3 BW as OC HQ Coy. He attended TA Staff College in 1998 and the Canadian Staff and Militia Course. In 1999 he assumed the appointment of Bn 2IC for 6 months prior to SDR. On formation of 51st Highland Regiment he remained as Bn 2IC. He was then posted to 51 (Scottish) Bde as SO2 G3 TA with responsibility for implementing the TA Officer Course. He was promoted to Lt Col and assumed command of HIGHLAND on 28 Feb 03.
Lt Col Couser is a manager for Spaldings UK Ltd, which is Europe’s largest direct supplier of agricultural materials. He is married to Christine ( a Capt in the TA) with three small children. His interests include rugby, fishing and bird watching.
