Major (Retired) George Burns  - Band Secretary


George Burns joined the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders as a boy soldier in 1945. He joined the Military Band and was appointed Drum Major in 1954. In 1960 he transferred to regimental duty and became a Company Sergeant Major. On the formation of the Queen's Own Highlanders in 1961 he was appointed to command the Assault Pioneer Platoon, then CSM of B Company and finally Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion Queen's Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons).

In 1968 he was the Garrison Sergeant Major in Singapore following which he was commissioned and appointed as a Staff Officer at Headquarters 99 Gurkha brigade. Afterwards he was the Quartermaster of the Scottish Infantry Depot until 1973 when he was seconded to the Sultan of Oman's Army and became Second in Command of the KJ, a Baluch Battalion.

He became Secretary of the Regimental Association Pipes and Drums in 1996.
