All QO HLDRS                                                                      31 July 2007

Dear All,

BECOME A FRIEND OF THE MUSEUM AND ONE OF THE FORT GEORGE FIFTY

Plans to upgrade the already excellent Regimental Museum at Fort George are currently underway.  Additional space has been acquired in the building (previously occupied, by the Pipes and Drums or Recce/COP Platoon) at the rear of the Museum.  This will allow the Library to be re-located and will provide a far better visitor friendly, Reference facility.  In addition, it is planned to provide a better shop, which in itself will allow us to make some money to help with the running costs of the Museum.

All this will be costly and in the near future a bid will be made to the National Lottery for assistance.  However, the more money that we can raise “in house” will hopefully increase the size of the sum obtained from the National Lottery.  This is especially important at a time when the Olympic Games will no doubt siphon off more than its fair share.

The reason that I have written this letter is because the Museum is the one place that the 33 years existence of the QO HLDRS and all who served during that period will be remembered and recorded. Regularly I read comments on the website of how rightly proud you all are to be members of the “Blue Mafia” and therefore, I was surprised to find this is not supported in the numbers that contribute to the running of this excellent facility by making a donation or subscription through the Friends of the Museum SchemeLess than 5% of all those who served in the QO HLDRS have made or regularly make contributions.

I would like to think this low percentage is because you don’t know about this appeal which has now been in place for some time and I would ask all who receive this communication, not only to consider a contribution, but in addition to play a part by passing it on to all QO HLDRS (and anyone else who you can persuade to contribute) in your address books.  Attached, you will find details of how you can contribute and I request that you lend your most needed support to an excellent Museum, which is and will remain, with your help, a memorial to all QO HLDRS past and present.

[Direct Debit/donation form in pdf format is here] Please print off and return or pass a copy to anyone you know who might want one

Secondly, when these changes take place, volunteers will be required to move items/equipment etc from room to room and to assist in other ways as we evolve.  When required I would like to have a number of QO HLDRS available to assist with this and therefore have in mind a database called the Fort George Fifty.  I calculate that, based on past experience that this will be the number required (taking into consideration “Sick Chitties etc”) to support a Fatigue Party of 10 on any particular day!  To volunteer your services please email me at bob@townssb.freeserve.co.uk simply adding Fort George Fifty and please include your address, Telephone Number and where possible Mobile Number.  Please note that an NCO IC is not required!

Your assistance is most certainly required, Cabar Feidh Gu Brath,

Yours aye,

Bob
