You may by now be aware that Home HQ The Highlanders / RHQ SCOTS – North will close this Autumn as a consequence of the 2021 Defence Review. The rooms it occupies in Building 15 at Cameron Barracks must therefore be vacated by 30 September. I, in conjunction with the Chairman and Trustees of the Queen’s Own Highlanders Regimental Trust, are planning what needs to happen now to achieve this.

As a result of the closure, the Queen’s Own Highlanders Regimental Association will move from its current Office and Storeroom on the first floor, downstairs to the Admin Office (with Storeroom behind) currently occupied by RHQ SCOTS – North. This will give the Association more space and the Office will be suitably furnished with Regimental Property.

The Highlanders Museum (QOHLDRS Collection) has no space for any additional items of furniture and so cannot accession them. The Regimental Trustees have decided to sell eighteen (18) items of Regimental furniture that cannot be accommodated in the Association’s office (see attached valuation list). They have agreed to offer these items for sale first to members of the Regimental family. This e-mail is the start of that process.

You are invited to review the attached list in case you are interested in purchasing any of the items. If you are, then please inform me by e-mail: maurice.gibson777@mod.gov.uk or gibbo.clochan@icloud.com by Monday 9 August.

I would be happy to send out photos (by e-mail) of any of the items together with any additional information provided by the valuer, Mark Medcalf. You will see the list of valuations and if you wish to bid on / secure an item you would need to tell me how much you will be prepared to offer. If more than one person bids for an item, I would inform all interested parties of the bids. A final decisions will then be taken and all parties informed.

Items being secured by members of the Regimental family would need to be removed from RHQ SCOTS – North by Thursday 30 September 2021 at the purchaser’s expense. Items not selected by members of the Regimental family will then be offered up for sale at public auction.

All money raised by the sale will be passed on to The Highlanders Museum (QOHLDRS Collection) and ringfenced in the Heritage Fund for conservation of the Collection.

I look forward to hearing from anyone interested in buying some of this surplus furniture.

Yours sincerely,

Maurice Gibson
